Protecting Michigan's Auto Insurance Promise

CPAN Calls On Legislators to Return to Table and Enact Meaningful Changes to Protect the Right to Recover

CPAN President Devin Hutchings today issued the following statement following the passing of Senate Bill 28 in the Michigan Senate.

"Senate Bill 28 purports to help auto accident victims, but in reality it does nothing to protect access to care. The Legislature had an opportunity to pass a narrow, long-term fix that would ensure survivors get the care they need, keep quality providers in business, and maintain cost controls implemented as part of the 2019 insurance reform legislation. Instead, it threw taxpayer dollars at a problem of its own making—while more than $23 billion sits unused in the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association fund."

"CPAN strongly encourages Michigan leaders to return to the table and enact real, meaningful changes that will protect accident victims’ right to recover—a right that was guaranteed in their auto insurance policies, which they dutifully paid their premiums for each and every year."
