CPAN Board Names New President, Approves Expanded Mission

Devin Hutchings takes over coalition leadership role

LANSING, Mich.—(Oct. 15, 2020)—At its October board of directors meeting, CPAN named Devin Hutchings, the president and CEO of Eisenhower Center rehabilitation facility in Ann Arbor, as its new coalition president, and unanimously approved an expanded mission for the consumer protection organization.

Hutchings replaces John Cornack, who is stepping away from the role after 11 years of leading the coalition.

“I’m excited to help lead CPAN as we embark on an important new chapter,” said Hutchings. “Now that the new auto insurance law is in full effect, we’ll continue working hard to educate all consumers about the importance of maintaining lifetime, unlimited PIP benefits to protect themselves and their families. I also want to thank John for his dedicated, compassionate leadership—he’s been a wonderful mentor and I’m honored to step into his role.”

Cornack said the coalition would be in good hands moving forward.

“Devin is an experienced and strategic leader who will help solidify CPAN’s role as Michigan’s leading consumer protection organization in the auto insurance sphere,” Cornack said. “I’m enormously proud of the work CPAN has done over the years on behalf of auto accident victims, their families, and all Michigan consumers. I look forward to seeing what this passionate group of advocates will accomplish in the coming years.”

Hutchings began his career with the Eisenhower Center in 2002 as a rehabilitation associate and has served in various other roles throughout his career including chairman of the board and trustee. Currently, he provides oversight of the corporation’s daily business operations, business development and supervision of all department heads for all of the Eisenhower campuses throughout Michigan and Jacksonville, Florida. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology Education from Ferris State University, an MBA from Central Michigan University and a certification in Diversity and Inclusion through Cornell University.

CPAN also approved a new mission, reflecting the changing landscape of auto insurance since sweeping changes to Michigan’s no-fault law were approved in 2019.

CPAN’s new mission states, “CPAN is the consumer advocate for auto insurance policyholders, those who have been injured in a motor vehicle crash and the medical providers caring for them, representing them at the Capitol, in the courts, and in the public forum.”

In accordance with the new mission, over the past several months CPAN has undertaken a statewide public education campaign focused on the importance of maintaining lifetime benefits, launched the new Shop Your Policy MI site aimed at helping consumers navigate the new law, and worked to hold big auto insurance companies like Progressive accountable and ensure consumers receive appropriate premium refunds in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
